Harlem, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, February 27, 2018, Mr. Paul D. “Doug” Cooper, 63.

Doug was a native of Augusta and a graduate of Evans High School. He began his career at the early age of 14 with Martinez Volunteer Fire Department. A dedicated fireman, with 46 years of service, he retired after 18 years as Chief of Columbia County Fire Department in 2016.

Family members include his son: Paul Cooper, II; sisters: Marjorie Mays (Billy), Betty Jean Perdue (James); brother: Cole W. Cooper, Jr. (Marilyn) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife: Sherree E. Cooper; and parents: Cole and Ruby Cooper.

The funeral service will be Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Porterfield and Rev. Pat Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be the Columbia County Fire Department Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be the Columbia County Fire Rescue. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation, 3614 J. Dewey Gray Circle, Bldg. C, Augusta, GA 30909.
