Augusta, GA (ANDERSON, SC) - Mary Elizabeth Goodyear Powell, widow of beloved husband, Louie Virgil Powell, entered into rest on March 13, 2017 at the Hospice House in Anderson, South Carolina.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, March 14, 2017, 2:00 P.M. in the Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church Augusta, Dr. Timothy Owings officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private.

Lib was born in Horry County, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Samuel Claudius Goodyear and Veta Holmes Goodyear. She enjoyed her home, her family, and her friends. In the 1960s, Lib worked for Augusta Pediatrician, Dr. R. C. McGahee and later worked until retirement at Eisenhower Medical Center. She was a former member of Mann Memorial United Methodist Church in Augusta, and most recently, First Baptist Church of Augusta where she spent many happy volunteer hours.

Lib is survived by her son, Jerry Bennett Hughes (Becky) of Milton, Georgia; her daughter, Veta Joana Powell New (Ted) of Anderson, South Carolina; grandchildren, Gary Powell Hughes (Jennifer) of Saint Johns, Florida, Marnie Elizabeth Miraya of Atlanta, and Mary Winn Miller (Martin) of Charlestown, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Leila Blackburn Gregg, Marie Graham, and Claudia Gentry.
