Augusta, GA - Rev. Richard W. Boyd, Sr., age 90 of Augusta, died peacefully Sunday afternoon June 17th, 2018 at his residence with immediate family by his side.
Rev. Boyd was pastor of a number of C.S.R.A. churches during his lifelong ministry including an over forty year tenure as founding pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Grovetown where he was a member and Pastor Emeritus. Rev. Boyd had particular interest in family ministry as evidenced by his outreach programs for people living in nursing homes, hospitals, homeless shelters and jails. He, his children, and late wife of sixty years, Jewell, also enjoyed planning and working in children’s ministry opportunities such as Sunday school, community Vacation Bible School, live, public nativity scenes, and weekly in-home visitation programs.
Family members include his son Billy and wife Martha of Baldwin; daughter Vickie and husband Walter of Forsyth; daughter Sharon and husband Michael of Thomson; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Rev. Boyd was preceded in death by his infant son Timothy D. Boyd, three sisters and seven brothers.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at Thomas Poteet & Son. Rev. Boyd’s memorial service will be in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Jerry Pitman officiating. A private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
