AUGUSTA , GA - Mrs. Agnes Dale Gillies Vaughan, 78, entered into rest Thursday, June 29, 2017. She was born in Arlington, Virginia on April 9, 1939 and was a resident of Augusta for the past 18 years. She graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA and attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She lived in Tappahannock, Virginia for many years. Mrs. Vaughan was a Cub Scout Den Leader, and enjoyed playing bridge.

She was challenged by a medical handicap and dealt with her infirmities with strength and courage. She lived independently in her cottage at her daughter’s house in Augusta for the past 18 years, preparing her own meals and caring for herself.

Dale is survived by her two sons, Randall White Vaughan, Jr., Joseph Christopher Vaughan (Jennifer) and her daughter, Patricia Vaughan Nixon (Cameron). She had 6 grandchildren: Martha Whitten Nixon, Henry Cobbs Nixon, Hill Vaughan Nixon, Taylor Whitten Vaughan, William Riley Vaughan and Grace Anne Vaughan. She is also survived by her brother, Rod Gillies (Nancy) of St. Louis, MO and two half-sisters: Sarah Nicholson (Bill) and Rhiannon Royce.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roderick McLeod Gillies, Jr. and Hazel Josephine Whitten Gillies.

A private memorial service for family will be held, Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of St. Peter and St. Paul at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend George D. Muir officiating. A later interment in the Saint Paul’s churchyard will be private. The family will greet friends at the home of Cameron and Tricia Nixon at 2802 Bellevue Ave after the memorial service from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. The family would like to thank Vivian Roberson for the many years of care and support she provided Dale and her daughter’s family.
