Barbara Bannester Stewart

Augusta, GA – Barbara Bannester Stewart entered into peace August 18, 2022. She was a native of Augusta, GA where she attended the Academy of Richmond County. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Emory University where she met the love of her life, William E. Stewart.

Mrs. Stewart was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, mentor and teacher to many. Her feisty, quick wit and wicked sense of humor were well known to all who had the honor of knowing her. She was deeply committed and passionate about teaching at Augusta College, especially the Summer Scholars program, developmental studies and physical science. She cherished her family and her lifelong friends. She loved animals and rescued many over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William E. Stewart, daughter, Dr. Frances P. Stewart and daughter, Susan D. Stewart. Family members include Dr. David and Tammy Stewart, Peter and Kimberly Stewart, grandchildren Jennifer D. Mohr, William B. Stewart, Emily S. Stewart, and Abigale G. Stewart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Augusta, GA.

A memorial service will be Saturday, August 27 at 11:00 am at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene St. Augusta, GA 30901. Family will receive visitors at a reception following the service.
