Augusta, GA - Mrs. Billie Cumbee Jones entered into rest Monday, January 7, 2019. She was a loving wife to the late Robert Hogan Jones.
Billie was born in Augusta on July 1, 1931 and was a lifelong Augusta resident. She was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She retired from OBGYN Associates as Medical Records Director. She loved the Lord and Warren Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joyful Women Sunday School class. She served the Lord and her church throughout her life as a teacher and director in the Sunday School department, working with youth in the Youth Department, teaching Training Union class, serving as president of the Women's Missionary Group, serving as president of the Women's Missionary Union, and serving on the Baptismal Committee and Committee on Committees.
Surviving family members include her children: Sheila (Michael) Thigpen, Debra (Bruce) Saul, Robert, Jr. (Leta) Jones; grandchildren: Matthew (Lauren) Thigpen, Lauren (Brian) Fortner, Michael Saul, Daniel (Lakshna) Jones, Keri Jones, and Jonathan Saul; great grandchildren: Emily Thigpen, Colby Fortner, Parker Thigpen, and Charlotte Fortner; sisters: Mildred Blackwell and Carolyn (Harmon) Burkhalter; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Georgia Cumbee, and sister, Betty Franks.
The funeral service will be held Friday, January 11, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. in the Warren Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Dave Dillard officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Matthew Thigpen, Michael Saul, Daniel Jones, Jonathan Saul, Brian Fortner, and Richard Dunevent.
