Claudine Zampini

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, Mrs. Claudine Crapps Zampini, 92, loving wife of the late Robert H. (Bob) Zampini.
Born on July 7, 1930, in Springfield, Ga, Claudine was the daughter of Chalmous and Mabel (Freyermouth) Crapps. After high school she moved to Savannah & worked as a telephone operator where she met Bob, an MP at nearby Hunter Air Force Base. After marrying on October 11, 1952, they moved to her husband’s hometown of Painesville, OH where she was a homemaker to her husband and four children. Eventually settling in the Augusta, GA area, she was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Claudine was a true beacon of unconditional love. She was at her happiest hosting a houseful of her extended family while busy making sure they were all comfortable. A legendary cook, her prized meatballs were so good they needed to be allocated by person to avoid complaints of favoritism and her pizzelles were often hauled away by the fistful. She always made sure there was a gracious plenty, both of the food, and the unconditional love.
In addition to taking care of her family, Claudine’s other super power was always knowing exactly what you needed in the moment – a word of encouragement to set you at ease, a funny quip to make you laugh, a bowl of ice cream for a hungry grandchild lifting weights, or shouting through the TV to her beloved Atlanta Braves player who might not have been trying hard enough. She could even tell that a dog was hungry, just by how they looked.
Claudine loved the beach, especially Tybee Island, GA and instilled this deep love for the beach in three generations of her family. It was often at the beach where she showed how gracious and patient a teacher she was with lessons on how to bait a fishing hook, the right way to position a chicken neck in a crab basket, and how to pull a joker off the top of the deck when playing Escalera. She started the family beach vacation, and her family will continue its legacy for generations to come. The family is forever grateful for the many years of loving care and devotion to Claudine by her daughter Therese and her husband Bruce Cliatt.
She is survived by her children: Janice (Bob) Lipscomb, Robert (Peggy), Ronald (Linda); Therese (Bruce) Cliatt, sister Gracie Hodges; grandchildren: Michael (Lindsay), John, David (Jenny), Paul (Katie), Elizabeth (Michael) Jean, Chris (Jordan) Cliatt, Jacob (Trish) Cliatt, Katie (Jud) Conkle, and Will Cliatt. Great- grandchildren: Andrew, Matty, Claire, Daniel, Caleb, Nathan, Hannah, Charlotte, Benjamin & Lilly Zampini, Mackenzie & Addison Jean, Ruthie Conkle, Campbell Cliatt with 2 more due this year. Besides her parents, Claudine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Zampini, who died November 26, 1977, her siblings: Annie, Lois, Ruby, Walden, Ernestine, Ferman, Herman, and Hubert, and her daughter-in-law Catherine Cox Zampini.
The funeral Mass will be held Monday, September 12, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Fr. Ingram celebrant. Interment will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery in Painesville, Ohio.
