Augusta, GA – Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Zahn Fleming, 82, loving wife of the late Frank A. Fleming, Sr. entered into rest on Monday, July 23, 2018.

In 1936, Betty was born in Union Beach, NJ to Edward and Gertrude Zahn and attended school there and Keyport High School, graduating in 1953. Her love of music inspired her to play both the piano and organ at an early age, leading her to become the organist at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Keyport, where she also directed the choir and assisted with the school plays. She became the organist and was active in the choir at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church after the family moved to the area in 1976.

Betty’s most recent music endeavor was learning to play the mountain dulcimer. She became a proud member of the Garden City Strummers and would often play for family and events in the area. She was the mother of six children and excelled in the home arts of cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, and crafts. Her skills led her to volunteer in Girl Scouts, First Aid Auxiliary, and various church and school groups. Betty ran the concession stand of the Evans High Booster Club, decorated numerous proms, and served as a substitute teacher for many years.

Betty was welcomed into heaven by her husband, mother and father, and her grandson, Alexander Fleming. Surviving family members include her children: Lisa Fleming, MaryEllen Mehler (Michael), Larry Fleming (Tracy), Judy McLure (Gary), Frank A. Fleming, Jr. (Vanamey), and Joel Fleming (Christi); grandchildren: Carolyn Mullen, Philip Carbino, Robert Mehler, Anna Batista, Andrew Fleming, Addison Fleming, Samantha Tunnell, Sydney Clutter, Emily Mehler, Erin McLure, Frank Fleming, III, Valerie McLure, Jackson Fleming, Owen Mehler, Coleman Fleming, Kimmy Johnson, Megan Fleming, Annelise Fleming, and Trent Fleming; 11 great grandchildren; brother: Edward H.
