Augusta, GA – Went to be with her LORD Saturday, October 28, 2017, Mrs. Elizabeth McKenzie, 89, loving wife of 45 years to the late Dr. John W. McKenzie, Sr.

Mrs. McKenzie was a native of Charlotte, NC but has lived in Augusta most of her adult life. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in history from Furman University and a degree in Music at Augusta College. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. She was formerly the church organist and choir director at Greene Street Presbyterian Church. Mrs. McKenzie taught piano in Richmond County for 50 years.

Family members include her daughters: Ann McKenzie Edwards and husband Fred, Emily McKenzie and partner Sharon Menard; son: William Brooks McKenzie; grandchildren: Lauren Edwards and Spencer Edwards; and brother: Dr. Charles Bobo and wife Mary. Betty was preceded in death by her husband John, and son, John Ward McKenzie, Jr., and brother, George Bobo.

A memorial service will be Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. in the Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Patti Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 P.M., at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way Ext, Augusta, GA 30909 or to a charity of one’s choice.
