Elsie Hayslip Utley

Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday, November 4, 2021, Mrs. Elsie Hayslip Utley, 91, at Madison Heights of Evans.

Born in Jenkins County, GA to Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Messex, Elsie was a graduate of Millen High School and attended Georgia Southern College. In 1958 she began her residence in Augusta where she worked for Serotta & Maddox C.P.A.s, Perkins Construction Company, Carter Electric, and last Augusta Fire Protection. Elsie enjoyed her membership for a time with Sweet Adelines. She was also a member of and President of Women in Construction. Elsie loved her church, St. James Methodist and was an active member for many years.

Family members include her daughters: Nancy Linda West of Augusta; Debbie Utley of Jackson, SC; Carol Baxter (Larry) of Charleston, SC; her grandchildren: Michelle Weston (Dr. Charlie) of Augusta, Kate Hill (Paxton) of Calhoun, GA; Michael Hayslip of Aiken, SC; Stephen Hayslip; Jared Baxter and Ashton Baxter of Charleston, SC; and a number of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leroy Utley, whom she loved dearly; a son David Hayslip; a sister Vera Himebaugh; a brother Dave Messex, and son-in-law James L. West.

The family is deeply grateful for the care Elsie received at Madison Heights of Evans and particularly from Miranda and Agnes. We also want to thank Bianca and Karen of Hands of Grace Hospice for their wonderful care and concern for her well-being.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 3:00 P.M. at St. James Methodist church with Pastor Thurman Norville officiating. Burial will be private.
