Herman Kersey

December 21, 1946 - March 22, 2022

Hephzibah, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, Mr. Herman Low Kersey, 75, loving husband of Mrs. Judy Mock Kersey. Herman was a native of Swainsboro, GA but lived in Hephzibah for 46 years. He worked at Augusta Newsprint for 39 years before retiring. He loved his country, family and friends. From the day he became a Marine, to the day he was assigned to Heaven’s Gates, he valued and portrayed the core values of the United States Marine Corps of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. Herman served honorably in the Marine Corps from Dec 1967 to May 1969. During that time, he was attached to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Division. His awards include Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ two (2) bronze stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ device. He was awarded “Outstanding Man” during his time at Parris Island, South Carolina. Forever and always; Semper Fidelis. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He was an honorary member of Green Camp. Family members in addition to his wife include his son: Richard Kersey (Angela); daughter: Crystal Cotrell (Steve); grandchildren: Brian Kersey (Cheyenne), Saxton, Savannah, Sydney and Stella Cotrell; great grandchild: Waylon Kersey; sisters: Tinnie Scales (Melvin) and Marsha Rider (Art). Herman was preceded in death by his grandson Nicholaus Kersey and his parents Ranzel Kersey and Betty (Winton) Singletary, and grandparents Allen Sr. and Kitty Edenfield. The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Mr. Louis Schlein presiding. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
