Irene Meadows

Augusta, GA – Irene Katherine Meadows entered eternal rest on Palm Sunday, April 10, 2022. She was born in Munich, Germany in 1935, the daughter of Josef Stoepfel and Elisabeth Eder.
She met and married her beloved husband Clyde Wilson Meadows in Munich in 1958. After traveling the world together, they selected Augusta as their forever home in 1965 because the people of Augusta were so undeniably friendly. She was a proud naturalized citizen of the United States.
She worked for 30 years as a Kindergarten Paraprofessional with the Richmond County Schools, mostly at Bungalow Road Elementary School. She was a forty-two year member of First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Trinity Sunday School class.
Irene loved children, both her own and the ones she had the privilege to teach. She was dignified and private. She loved to watch people, was kind to strangers and was fiercely devoted to her family. She loved long chats over good cups of coffee. She had the strength and wisdom of someone who has endured and overcome many challenges. She knew how to let the little things go so she could hold the big things close. She was always there when the people she loved got home and her family has every confidence that she will be waiting in Heaven for us when we also get to our eternal home.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Clyde, sons Clyde, Jr. (Laura) of Tampa, Florida, and John (Becky) of The Woodlands, Texas; three grandsons, Clyde III, Charlie, and William, many nieces and nephews, and she was preceded in death by her parents and all siblings.
Those who knew her will never forget her laugh and her distinctive German-Southern accent. She was amazing.
A Memorial Service will be held for her at First Presbyterian Church, at 11:00AM on June 16, 2022 in the Sanctuary, 642 Telfair Street, Augusta.
