Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, November 1, 2021, Mr. Jack Leroy Gillis, 80.

Family members include his children: Mike Gillis, Doug Gillis, and Debbie Hood; and sister: Dianne Hill (Kelly Hill) and many nieces and nephews that he enjoyed spending time with. He was preceded in death by his parents: Leroy and Margaret Gillis and his brother Gene Gillis.

Jackie was a member of Burns Memorial Methodist Church where he was also known as Santa Claus for a number of years. A ‘gig’ he truly enjoyed. A graduate of Hephzibah High School he was in the first graduating class of what was then Augusta College. Jackie went on to receive his master’s in psychology from Florida State University. He was an accomplished athlete in basketball and baseball as well. He was a huge sports fan. Jackie was especially fond of the Georgia Bulldogs football program and Augusta State basketball. His favorite thing was spending time with family.

Music was Jackie’s passion; he loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Volunteered to sing at many functions and really enjoyed karaoke. Jackie was an 11-year resident of St. John’s Towers where he developed many friendships through the years and became like a family member to many.

Jackie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed nature, whether it was to sit on a stool and fish, walk, or just sit on a pier and watch the ocean. Jackie touched numerous lives and will be greatly missed. His memory will be cherished by many friends and family.

Services will be private.
