James Thomas "Jim" Herzberg

October 20, 1955 - January 21, 2022

Martinez, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, January 21, 2022, surrounded by family. Mr. James Thomas “Jimmy” Herzberg, 66, is the loving husband of 40 years to Rebecca Pileggi Herzberg. Jim is the son of the late Clifford and Audrey Herzberg. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Jennifer Herzberg Baker (Jay), John-Robert Herzberg, and grandson James Baker; his brother Joe Herzberg (Tina); and sisters Audrey Herzberg Findlay; and Barbara Herzberg Rowe, (Jeff). Sister-in-laws Melissa Grosvenor, Debbie Grimes (Mike), and Patricia Gueydan (Edmond), brothers-in-law Frankie Pileggi (Mary), and Michael Pileggi (Peggy); and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, his deceased relatives include mother-in-law Suzie Pileggi, brother-in-law Doug Findlay and sister-in-law Angela Silverstein. Jim retired from the Kroger Company in 2013 after 33 years of service, serving as Zone Manager for the Augusta region. Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling, and he especially valued his time with his family. He had a charismatic personality, always positive, with a big smile and finding humor in all that he did. Jim put his positive outlook to work when having to battle Parkinson’s disease. Despite having to cope with challenging symptoms, Jim never once complained, and could somehow find a bright side when facing an array of debilitating conditions. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Solomon Kaanan and Deacon Daniel Craig celebrating. A burial will be held at Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Judson Grosvenor, Wyatt Grosvenor, Benjamin Herzberg, Joey Herzberg, Jimmy Rowe, Doug Findlay, and Rob Scruggs. A Vigil service will be held Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd. Augusta, GA 30907. The family will receive friends following the vigil from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CSRA Parkinson’s Support Group, 2708 W. Terrace Dr., Augusta, GA 30909.
