Jane Ellis

Augusta, GA – Jane Ellis, commercial real estate agent at Sherman & Hemstreet, entered into rest on October 19, 2021, at Augusta University Medical Center. She would have been 73 on October 20th of this year. Her passing was quick and unexpected after a cancer diagnosis.

Jane is survived by nephews: Michael Chivington Osbon (Kristan) and John Wilcher Osbon, great-nephew: David Geddings Osbon, and great-niece: Emily Ellis Osbon. She was predeceased by her parents: Ann Chivington Ellis and George Johnson Ellis. sister: Ann Osbon Mielke. nephew: Christopher Geddings Osbon.

Jane was born in Chattanooga, TN. She graduated from the Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga and from Katharine Gibbs School in New York, NY. She lived in the Augusta area for more than 50 years. She proudly served on the board of the Downtown Development Authority of Augusta.

All who knew Jane appreciated her sharp intellect and quick wit. She was a well-versed conversationalist and very much enjoyed politics, history, music, and art. Fiercely independent and good-natured, she attracted lifelong friends and kept these loyal relations closely guarded.

She appreciated good rock concerts, science fiction, and could be found jovially playing pool with friends at the Sports Center on Broad Street in earlier years. Seamstress, designer, office manager, commercial realtor, analyst; Jane had many talents. We will miss her dearly.

A memorial honoring Jane will be held at a later date.
