Jean Wall Everett
Augusta, GA - Jean Wall Everett, 88, of Augusta affectionately known as Chunk, entered into rest Monday, December 24, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Everett was born on September 11, 1930, in West Point, Georgia. Her beloved husband of 50 years, Dr. Theodore Everett, and her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Beland Wall of West Point, Georgia, precedes her in death. Also preceding her are her late maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Mabry of Luthersville, Georgia and the late maternal aunts, Ms. Thelma Wall, Mrs. Frances J. Daniel, and Mrs. Arlene W. Griffin of Rome, Georgia, all of whom helped raise her. And one surviving cousin, Jacqueline H. Hawkins of Phenix City, AL.
She graduated from Girls High in Rome, Georgia in 1948. She worked many days during high school at Battey State Hospital and in 1949 entered the Barrett School of Nursing at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga. Upon graduation in 1953 she completed further studies at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. After completion she returned as a head nurse at the University Hospital, Augusta, GA.
She served in various capacities in organizations throughout the community. During her vivacious life she was past president of the Richmond County Medical Auxiliary, past president of the Doctors Hospital Medical Guild, and served in various capacities for the Azalea Garden Club, the Forest Acres Garden Club and the Junior Women’s Club of Augusta.
She was known to be the light of the room with a contagious smile and loved telling a joke or two. She shared her smile with believing followers in her CBS Bible study group. She was known by friends as one filled with laughter, one with a large personality, and as the “cool” Grandma that knew how to pack a lunch box. She loved her “On the Road, Again” trips to anywhere, decorating for parties and holidays, and most of all enjoyed her children and doing for her friends. Mrs. Everett is survived by four children: Alice Everett Bloomfield of Hilton Head Island, SC and her husband, John Wesley Bloomfield, III, and Jean Everett Johnson of Augusta, GA and her husband, Dr. Walter Edwin Johnson, Jr., and Theodore Samuel Everett of Chipley, FL, and Ann Everett Rentiers of Columbia, SC and her husband, Joseph Kenneth Rentiers, her grandchildren, Alexandra McNeill Holloway Dennis of Augusta, GA, and her husband Francis Spain Dennis IV, and Everett McNeill Holloway of Charlotte, NC, and Joseph Kenneth Rentiers, III of Columbia, SC.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church of Augusta, Georgia where she was married and was a member for over 60 years. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will be held.
