Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Saturday, May 21, 2022, Mr. Joe Edward Gwaltney, 100, loving husband of the late Sally Gwaltney.

Joe was a native of Tennessee but has lived in the Augusta area for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. During WW II he served with the 82nd Airborne Division in the D-Day campaign, Holland, and Belgium before being severely wounded. Afterwards, he continued with his military career, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. While Joe was a patriot and American hero, he will always be remembered by his family as the kind, gentle and loving man that he was.

Family members include his children: William B. Gwaltney (Jender), Lee D. Gwaltney, Shawn Gwaltney (Robin), and Ashley Mazza (Anthony); grandchildren: Dan, Matt, Miranda, Erin, Nick, and Kaitlyn; 6 great grandchildren and many other loving family members. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his brother, John Lee Gwaltney.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son, Rev. Brett Dehart officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
