John W. Greenlee
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest July 16, 2018, US Army Retired Major John W. Greenlee, 73.
John W. Greenlee was born to the late George and Lessie Greenlee in Columbus, GA. Maj. Greenlee served twenty years as a Community Health Nurse in the US Army, retiring in Hawaii in 1987. He was a 1968 graduate of Columbia Union College School of Nursing, now Washington Adventist University, in Tacoma Park, MD, and received his Master of Public Health from Tulane University in 1971. His military duty stations were at his home at Ft. Benning, GA; Ft. Monmouth, NJ; Bad Kreuznach, GY; Ft. Dix, NJ; Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Ft. Gordon, GA; and Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii. Most recently Maj. Greenlee lived in Liberia, West Africa for five years working in maternal and child healthcare part time during his retirement.
Family members include: daughters Jeanette M. Greenlee of Greenwood, SC and Jennifer Greenlee Washington, son-in-law Corey A. Washington, and grandson Connor Greenlee Washington of Atlanta, GA. Although they were divorced, he remained friends with Rhoda Lapp, the mother of their two daughters. He is also survived by his sister Jewel M. McDaniel and brother-in-law Charles McDaniel of Aurora, CO, his brother Larry D. Greenlee and sister-in-law Shirley Greenlee of Columbus, GA, his sister-in-law Dortlean Greenlee, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother George Greenlee.
A memorial service will be Saturday, July 28, 2018, 4:00 P.M. at Augusta First Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 4301 Wheeler Road, Martinez, GA 30907.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to one of Maj. Greenlee’s favorite charities, March of Dimes, 3412 Wrightsboro Rd., Suite 902-312, Augusta, GA 30909.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 3:00 P.M. at the church.
