John Thomas Y. Smith, Jr.

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday, August 19, 2021, Mr. John Thomas Y. Smith, Jr., age 82, was preceded in death by his first wife; Julia Kane Smith and his second wife; Belva Duncan Smith.

John was a native and longtime resident of Augusta, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Airforce for 4 years and retired from Castleberry Foods after 34 years of service as the Director of Purchasing.

After retiring, John and Julie moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina where they lived for 11 years before moving back to Augusta. The grandchildren have many fond memories of collecting seashells and playing at Dolphin Head Beach.

Family members include children: John Thomas Y. Smith, III (Charlene), Jennifer Smith Coyne (Glenn), Joan Smith Green (Dalton) and James Frederick Smith (Lorena). Grandchildren: Chris Smith, Brett Smith, Craig Smith (Joanna), Abby Coyne, Maggie Coyne Paine (Andrew), Gabe Green, Collin Oliver (Cassie), Rita Smith Vinson (Baylee), Julia Smith, Aubin Smith and three great-grandchildren including a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial mass will be celebrated, and the family will hold a private burial service later.
