Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, Leroy Lee “Dinky” Wilson, 85.
Family members include his wife: Joan Kathleen Wilson; Daughters: Joan Marie Wilson “Joanie”, Cynthia Lynne Wilson “Cindy”, Pamela Wilson Gould (Frank); Grandchildren: Matthew Carlton Vowell, Andrew Lee Vowell (Linzy), Angela Marie Lovett (Travis); Great Grandchildren: Logan Marie Lovett; and Siblings: Lula Bell Sims, and Billy Don Wilson (Ann). He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Kathleen Wilson and brother, Willie Wilson (Vera).
Born in Andrews, SC, he grew up in Georgetown, SC and attended Winyah High School. As a young man, he joined the SC National Guard and later the US Navy. He loved God, his fellow man, and served his country with pride. The work ethic he learned in the military carried him though out his life and he passed this along to his children and grandchildren.
After serving in the military, he made a career and ultimately retired as a supervisor with International Paper Company.
He was known as “Dinky” to all who knew and loved him. His humor and laughter were as big as his heart and it was common to hear him singing and dancing, just to make everyone laugh.
The only thing greater than his heart was the love he had for his wife and family. “Kat” was his sweetheart and he never let a day pass without telling her how much he loved her.
His family lovingly thanks Robbie Sims, Mike Wilson, Tony Skipper (nephews), Jimmy Vowell and Billy Vowell for serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Archie Sims, Billy Wilson, Jr, Tim Skipper, M.L. Bass, Larry Bass, Ronnie Bass, Kenny Vause, Mike Vause, Jerry Vause, Steve Vause, Terry Vause, Chistopher Vause and Kevin Vause (nephews).
The funeral service will be held Friday, February 5, 2021 at 2:30 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son chapel with Rev. Scott Bedgood officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. The family encourages masks to be worn.
