Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, July 6, 2017, Linda Dutton Slaby, 72, the loving wife of the Honorable Richard A. Slaby Sr., for over 50 years.
Linda was born in LaGrange, GA, but Augusta was her home for 64 years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Linda was a loving and devoted wife who enjoyed being with her husband. He was her soulmate.
She was an avid reader of hundreds of books including cooking, political history, gardening, fashion and interior design. She excelled at all of these subjects.
She was a gourmet cook who loved cooking with friends, especially during the holidays, or just to surprise them with something good. Her specialty was a standing crown roast with Yorkshire pudding and gravy, only to be accompanied by her famous Baked Alaska dessert.
Linda enjoyed gardening and spent much of her time in beds of daylilies, Gerber daisies and basically anything that was colorful and beautiful. Her home was no different than her gardens. She loved interior decorating and was an exceptionally talented designer. She was also a member of the Augusta Symphony Guild.
She loved fashion and going to the apparel markets in Atlanta, Dallas and New York to buy for her sister’s clothing boutique in Surrey Center.
Linda was also an A Team tennis player at the Augusta Country Club. She was a spirited competitor who loved the game. She especially loved being with her tennis buddies who were a core group of dear friends.
She was quick witted with a great sense of humor. Her friends would tell you that she had a wonderful soul and was kind hearted. One of the ways she showed her love was through giving. She would just appear at the back door of her children’s home bearing gifts for all. Affectionately know as Gigi to her two grandchildren, she was as kind a person as anyone could be.
Family members, in addition to her husband, include sons: Richard A. Slaby, Jr. (Soule), Seth Douglas Slaby, and grandchildren Richard A. Slaby, III and Hamner Crane Slaby. She was predeceased by her son, Matthew Bryan Slaby.
A graveside service will be Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert Fain officiating.
