Marianne Hinely

Marianne Hinely
Augusta, GA—Entered into rest Saturday, March 23, 2019, Mrs. Marianne Hinely, 93; a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Joshua Hinely, Sr., sister Frances Worst, and daughter Ann Fairey.
Marianne was born in Columbia, SC, to the late Hugh and Mary Irwin Armstrong. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women and later received a Master’s Degree in Education from Augusta College. She taught in Richmond County Schools for many years. Beyond teaching school, she enjoyed teaching English as a Second Language through a program at her church, First Baptist Church of Augusta. Marianne loved both teaching and lifelong learning. Once retired from the school system, she reveled in traveling the United States and Europe with her husband, enhancing her love of learning history and geography. They also built a summer home in Burnsville, NC, which they delighted in sharing with family and friends for many years. Marianne and Lewis were happily married for nearly 62 years.
Marianne had a lifetime love of music and hobby of piano playing. She enjoyed singing in her church choir, and she began playing piano for her childhood church’s evening services at the age of 12 and continued all the way to entertaining her fellow residents at Augusta Gardens Assisted Living into her 80s. She relished books of all sorts and nature—especially birds and wildflowers. She was also quite the hobby-photographer, producing many slide shows from all their trips and filling photo albums with pictures of family to commemorate wonderful times and memories made.
She is survived by her children Lewis J. (Patsy) Hinely, Jr., Emily Hinely Sewell, and Martha Hinely (Mark) Adams; grandchildren Stephanie (Eric) Bell, Jonas (Debra) Sewell, Ginger (Jason) Boyll, Josh (Melissa) Sewell, Kelley (Luke) Deitemeyer, and Tricia (Gary) Coleman; 13 great-grandchildren Caleb, Carson, and Caitlin Bell, Malachi and Josiah Sewell, Jonathan and Anna Boyll, Hunter and Emberly Sewell, David and Wyatt Deitemeyer, and Garrett, Noel, and Lachlan Coleman; also sister-in-law Edell Hinely Raburn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 106 SRP Drive, Suite A, Evans, GA 30809.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2019, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Reverend David Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
