Marie Smith

Marie D’Antignac Smith, 72, entered into the presence of the Lord on June 2, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. She cherished being a mother and grandmother, as well as spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Toxey Smith, their children Laura Adamski (Craig) and Rusty Smith (Stacie). She was known as Nana to her dearly loved grandchildren, Bekah & Connor Spies, and Brynnley Smith. The daily presence of them was always the light of her life.

She leaves behind two brothers, Bill D’Antignac (Judy) and Cecil D’Antignac (Dawn), a sister Martha Moore (Gordy), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She bids a special “see you later” to her cousin and “sister at heart”, Gloria Bargeron of Millen, Georgia, as well as her niece London Thaun (Anthony) of North Augusta, SC.

Marie was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Bargeron Ellingwood and father C.A D’Antignac, Brothers Andrew Ellingwood, William H.Best and Bobby D’Antignac. Sisters Caroline Iree D’Antignac Poitra and Kathy D’Antignac Schleenbacher.

Marie was born in Augusta, Georgia. She graduated from Butler High School, then earned a BBA degree from Augusta College where she was APO’s sweetheart.

The majority of her career was spent selling real estate as Vice President of Blanchard and Calhoun in Evans Georgia, where she received sales agent of the month many times over.

Marie will be missed by her many friends. Truly, she epitomized the definition of a friend, as Scripture tells us,” A friend loves at all times”... Proverbs 17:17

She was a devoted member of Overcomers Outreach Center, where she served many years as a co-laborer with her faithful pastor Roger Bennett. She loved her daily devotional time, studying God’s word, and praying for friends, family, and country.

All who were blessed to know Marie knew that the center of her life was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His love flowed through her to all she met. Her legacy is found in the words of Corinthians 14: 4-7,” Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up, does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things...Love never fails.”

Special thanks to Jackie Fekula and the 911 Ladies of Prayer, Dr. Ghamandi, and the entire staff at the Cancer Center for their special care and support over the last four years
