Augusta, GA - Mary Dial Bovard, who found joy as a wife and mother, died on Saturday, June 5, 2021, of a brain tumor.

Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at 11 o’clock at Church of the Good Shepherd, 2230 Walton Way, followed by private interment in the churchyard at a later date.

A memorial service will be held in Columbia, South Carolina on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at 4 o’clock at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street.

Mrs. Bovard, affectionately known as ‘’Mimi,’’ was born May 23, 1983, in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of Corinne Ellison Dial and John Donald Dial, Jr. who survive their daughter. She was the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hagood Ellison and Mr. and Mrs. John Donald Dial, all of Columbia. She graduated from Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and Clemson University. The Heathwood faculty awarded her the St. Francis Cup, recognizing the student who sows love, practices faith, and brings hope, light, and joy to all facets of school life.

Mimi worked for four years in Washington, DC, where she met her husband, Robert Dennis Bovard. They married on April 18, 2009, and moved to Augusta, Georgia, her adoptive city, which she loved.

Mimi was a communicant of Church of the Good Shepherd and a member of The Assembly in Columbia and The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America.

She is survived by her beloved husband, her son Robert Dennis Bovard, Jr., her twin daughters Mary Ellison Bovard and Ruth Dennis Bovard, her parents, her much loved sister Ellison Dial Suthoff (Brian) of Boston, MA, her in-laws Mr. and Mrs. Grier Cooper Bovard, lll, and her godparents Sherwood McKissick Cleveland of Camden, SC and William Choice Cleveland, III of Charleston, SC. She was predeceased by her godmother Mrs. Franklyn Deming Owen, Jr.

She is also survived by her godchildren, Elizabeth Anne Greene of Chicago, IL, Jane Gertrude Boykin Trulock and Charles Clayborn Baxter Thompson of Augusta, and a legion of friends.

Mimi will be remembered for her courage, her selfless and generous nature, her welcoming spirit, her athletic grace, and her goodness – qualities that resonated her entire life.

Mimi loved her children and their school, Episcopal Day School, where her family will establish a fund in her memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Episcopal Day School, 2248 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904.
