Augusta, Ga – Mary Ellen entered into rest on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Augusta University, she was 76 years old. She was born in Philadelphia to Lucy and Joseph Mulrenan. She had one sister Josephine and an adoptive brother Joey. She grew up as part of a very large Irish Catholic family. Her mother was one of 13 children who all lived in a suburb of Philadelphia. She graduated from Notre Dame High school. She worked for many years at the Franklin Mint as a line supervisor. Later in her life she worked as an advocate in a women’s shelter in North Carolina.
In 1980 Mary Ellen left Philadelphia and moved to Georgia. She later moved to Texas to be near her sister Josephine and later followed her to North Carolina. Most recently Mary Ellen moved to Georgia to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She lived at St Johns towers for many years. She and her beloved dog Biggie were befriended by the residents and staff of St John towers. She recently resided at The Place at Martinez where the staff treated her with kindness and dignity.
Mary Ellen was a cradle catholic and gifted her children with a strong sense of faith in God. She enjoyed reading and had an extensive collection of Stephen King books. She loved to play bingo with her sister and her nieces.
She is predeceased by her parents Lucy and Joseph Mulrenan, her sister Josephine Robinson (Claude) and her son Stephen Joseph Macleod. She is survived by her adopted brother Joey Mulrenan, her daughter Kellie Laird (Phillip), grand daughters Lauren Stephenie Laird and Brenna Massey Laird, her brother in law Claude Robinson, nieces and nephews Darlene, Lucy, David and Byron and many great nieces and nephews.
A private inurnment will be held at St Mary on the Hill Columbarium and a Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
