Augusta, GA - Mr. Newton D. Leach, 70, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Doctor’s Hospital after several battles with cancer.

Newt was born in Keokuk, Iowa to Floyd D. and Geraldine Barrows Leach. He spent his early years in Kahoka, Missouri and Burlington, Iowa where he graduated from Burlington High School and Burlington Technical College. Newt served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972. After the Navy, he was employed in the power generation industry and retired from General Physics Corporation where he was a Senior Procedure Writer.

Mr. Leach is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary L. Leach and three children, Sarah Harper Scott, Micah Abbott Leach and Rachel Bennett Leach. Newt was Grandpa to his granddaughters, Anna Harper Scott and Brooklyn Grace Leach. He is also survived by a special daughter, Marlin Azucena Dean and was “Dad” to Bryan Christian Dean. He also leaves behind a sister, Kimberly Leach Roybal and her partner, Jerry Jones. Newt is also survived by his uncles, Roland Guy Barrows, Ray Lee Barrows and aunt, Marilyn Barrows Zinnert. Additionally, he is survived by his aunts-in-law; Beverly Gutting Barrows, Anita Richey Barrows and Nadine Hand Barrows. Newt was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Lewin D. Leach.

A visitation will be on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A private, family memorial service will be held at a later date.
