Martinez, GA - Robert “Bob” H. Hill, Jr. died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the age of 70.
Bob spent much of his life in Michigan and was born and raised in Saginaw. He and his family moved to Augusta in 1999. He enjoyed his work as a residential real estate appraiser after a varied career mainly in the automotive industry. An avid and lifelong runner, he loved nothing more than spending time with his family and being outdoors. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of adventure and ability to make people smile.
After he was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2018, he faced each day with courage and resolve to overcome this aggressive brain cancer. “Team Bob” with an “Attack the Day” mantra helped give him strength and hope during his nearly three-year battle.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert, and Mary Catherine Hill. Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara; his son, Andrew Hill of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Melissa (Casey) Heckathorn of Evans, GA, and Kelley (Dan) Zakeri of Oxford, PA; and five grandchildren, Natalie, Madelyn, and Olivia Heckathorn, Nathan, and Lauren Zakeri; and his sister, Kelly (Joe) Schwartz, of Jamestown, TN.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 in the churchyard at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 605 Reynolds Street, Augusta, GA, at 11:00 A.M.
