Ronald L. Coleman

Ronald L. Coleman
Augusta, GA – Ronald Lane Coleman, 85, entered into eternal rest at daybreak on Thursday, October 25, 2018. He was the husband of Jane Edenfield Armstrong-Coleman.

Ron was born in Vidalia, GA on August 30, 1933, the 7th child of 10 children of Roy and Bertha Coleman. The family was from Metter, but soon relocated to Savannah where he graduated from Savannah High, Armstrong College and the University of Georgia School of Journalism in 1955.

After proudly serving his country in the US Army stationed in Fort Knox, Ron entered the workplace in Savannah as an executive in public relations for Union Camp Corporation and for the Central of Georgia Railroad.

A strong extrovert, he was a man of many talents, interests, and loved a new challenge. He frequently received trophies for his performances at the Savannah Playhouse (including musicals). Later while in Jacksonville, FL he began fictional writing and frequently won numerous awards from The Florida Times-Union.

A natural leader, he was also active in many civic and professional clubs. He finished his career in Jacksonville and retired from AT&T.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include Ron’s sons: Ronald L. Coleman, Jr. (Angie), Christopher Coleman (Lisa) and Joshua Coleman (Katie); daughter: Jennifer Joyce Coleman; and several grandchildren. Jane’s children: Wick Armstrong, Jr. (Melissa), Carolee Armstrong Smith (Bruce), and Julie Armstrong Sculac (Jim). Mr. Coleman was predeceased by his parents, several siblings and his first wife of 56 years, Joyce Hunter Coleman, the mother of his children.

At a Savannah High School class reunion a few years ago, Ron and Jane were reacquainted and married shortly thereafter. After moving to Augusta, Ron moved his membership to First Baptist Church of Augusta.

His memorial service will be held Friday, November 2, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. in the Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church of Augusta with Rev. Will Dyer and Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way Ext, Augusta, GA 30909 if desired.

The family would also like to express their deepest gratitude for outstanding care both to Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home and the Department of Family Medicine at Augusta University Health.
