Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Monday, November 6, 2017, Mrs. Ruby Marie Smith, 96, loving wife of 63 years to the late George H. Smith.

Mrs. Smith was a native of Springville, Mississippi but lived in Augusta most of her adult life. After thirty-three years of service, she retired from a successful career with Owen Illinois, formerly Lily Tulip. Ruby was an active member of First Baptist Church Augusta, where she served faithfully in the Children’s Ministry, WMU Missions, the Golden Circle Sunday School Class and on the Communion Committee. She was passionate about gardening, cooking, sewing and exercise. Her servant’s heart was full of love for her Savior and for others, and her lifelong examples of grace and kindness will be remembered forever.

Ruby was the beloved mother of: Linda Smith Hilliard (Rick), Ann Smith Hayes (Thomas), and Marvin H. Smith (Royce); grandmother of: Jennifer Hilliard Scott (Kyle), Lindsay Hilliard Washington (Chris), Barrett Hayes (Jennifer), Kevin Street (Connie) and Jennifer Gibson; great grandmother of: Olivia, Blake, Knox, Eli, Maddy, Claire, Charlotte, Thomas, David, Michael, Allen, Paige, Cassidy, Madison and Cameron. Her parents, Marvin Kilgore and Mary Elizabeth (Molly B.) Smith, her siblings, and her great grandson, Owen Washington preceded her in death.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Faiz Rehman and Trinity Hospice, and her devoted caregiver, Carrie Brown, for their wonderful support of Ruby and her family.

A graveside service will be on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with her nephew, the Rev. Curtis Bray and the Rev. Patti Fowler officiating.
