He was the best man anybody ever knew, with a heart of gold. Family defined Russ and he was the most exceptional of family men. He will be remembered as a dedicated and caring uncle, choosing to raise his nephew Adam and niece Angelique without obligation with a lifetime of love, strength and guidance. He will be missed as golfing partner, cherished friend and loyal confidant to his brothers John and Bob. He will be treasured as a life companion and partner in travel and adventure to Grete. He was an adopted father and friend to Rosemary and Kathleen. He will be missed most by those who called him Papa Russ or Russ Dada including Nithya, Kennedi, Lily and Gabriel who will miss the fun, games, life lessons, reading time and snuggles together. All who knew him will remember his kind, thoughtful, and easygoing nature and the effects of his generosity and love will live on.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Colette Blodgett. He is survived by his chosen family, Adam Knight (wife Nalini; child Nithya), Angelique Vo (husband Kevin; child Kennedi), his longtime companion Grete del Toro (daughter Rosemary, granddaughter Kathleen Britton and great-grandchildren, Lillian and Gabriel Britton), his brothers John Blodgett (wife Jessie; children Jean, Alanna, and Alisha) Robert Blodgett; and his aunts Sarah Williams and Martha Scott.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. Vernon Knight celebrant. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Boys Town, 14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010 ( www.boystown.org ).
The family respectfully requests guests wear masks at both the visitation and service.
