Thor Edward Peckel, Jr., 80, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Augusta University Medical Center. Thor was born in 1942 in New York City. He was the only child of Thor and Egle (Meconi) Peckel Marcucci.

Thor is survived by his wife Judi Greenlee Peckel, two sons Erik Christian Peckel (Amy), Ian Christopher Peckel (Meredith) and four grandchildren, Graham Falconburg Peckel, Lillian Marguerite Peckel, David Thor Peckel and Bowen Douglas Peckel.

Thor graduated from Lowell Technological Institute, presently the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, with a degree in plastics engineering. He was a member of Omicron Pi fraternity and continued to participate in the school and fraternity alumni groups. After graduation Thor went to work for Exxon Research and Engineering for Thermoplastic Resins.

From 1966 – 1968 Thor served in the US Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground. After the Army, he went to work for Rexene Polymers Company, a Division of Dart Industries, as a sales representative, then District Manager. During this time Thor completed a master’s degree in marketing and Management from Fairleigh Dickerson University. Thor continued at Rexene as National Accounts Manager followed by Vice President of Sales. Eventually Thor moved to Pantasote Inc. and then Ultra-Poly Corporation. In 1989 Thor moved his family to Augusta, GA to take over as President and CEO of Baker Hydro, Inc. Finally, Thor ventured out and started his own business Southern Technical Reps. He was also involved in the development of a new product and company, Premium Environmental Products. Thor loved his work and meeting people all over the world.

Thor loved life and lived large. He was known to sky dive, play golf, tennis, and racquetball. He loved to snow and water ski, to fish and ride horses. He loved to travel especially to Italy and Mexico. Thor was always ready to try something new.

Thor was very blessed to receive a kidney transplant on 9/9/2009. He has tried very hard to help other transplant candidates and recipients through activities such fund raisers. He also gave talks at many events and especially enjoyed giving talks to the second-year medical students about his journey through kidney failure and transplant.

Most of all Thor loved his family and his friends. Thor was a joyful person who brought a smile to everyone he met.
