William "Bill" Johnson III

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest at his residence on Saturday, June 26, 2021, Mr. William “Bill” Earl Johnson, III, 87, loving husband of 65 years to Mary Jane “Ginger” Johnson.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Hearn officiating. The family will receive friends and family following the service in the meeting hall of the church for a greet and reception. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wal-Mart Golf Group and ROMEO’s group.

Mr. Johnson was born and raised in Aiken, SC. He went to Clemson University and was Captain of the golf team for four years and graduated in 1955. He was Captain in the United States Army Reserve, 201 1st Airborne, worked at C & S National Bank, and was vice president of Graniteville Mills/Avondale Mills, Inc. where he retired after 30 years in 1998.

He was instrumental for the South Carolina’s Council of Workforce Excellence. He was in Public Relations, South Carolina Textile Manufacturers Association, past president of the Augusta Advertising Club, board member and executive committee member for ten years at University Hospital, president of the Kiwanis Club, received the Legion of Honor, member of the Augusta Country Club since 1963 where he also served as a board member. Mr. Johnson was also a member of Trinity on the Hill where he was a faithful member of the Couples and Singles Sunday School, Sky Valley CC, and Spanish Wells CC (Hilton Head).

Mr. Johnson loved golf, the Braves, the Masters, Clemson football, and overseas travel.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his daughters: Lynn Johnson Huffman (Perry) and Laura Huesgen of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren: Katie Chavous (Dylan), Dakota Huesgen (Jacksonville, FL), Jennifer Meador (David) (Ridgeland, SC), and Matthew Rhoden; and five great grandchildren.
