Alberta Louise Brown Smith entered her life on February 20, 1945, in South Boston, Virginia. She was the eldest of three daughters and one older brother to her parents Isaac and Louise Brown.
She graduated from Lucy Addison High School in 1963 and furthered her education attaining a doctorate in devotional studies.
Alberta worked in various positions at General Electric and retired after 33 years of service. A virtuous, articulate, and outspoken woman, Alberta fought corporate and won maternity rights for all General Electric employees.
Alberta dedicated her life to the Lord evident by serving in various positions I.e., deacon, treasurer and as a praise team member at New Beginning United Holy Church. She also served many years as Adjutant and Usher in the United Holy Church of America and General Convocations.
Alberta treasured many activities to include spending time with family, dining and serving the Lord. Family was everything to her and besides raising her two sons and daughter, she served as a foster mom raising others with unconditional love. She was known as a fashionista that always dressed eloquently and with style. She distinguished herself by always knowing everyone’s birthday and ensured that they received a “happy birthday” greeting in person or over the phone.
Alberta is preceded in death by her mother Louise Watkins Brown, father Isaac Amount Brown, brother Pete Brown and sister Patricia Brown. Leaving in cherished memories, her two sons: Everette J. Smith II (Chunhui Smith) and Brian W. Smith (Aliya K.G. Smith), one daughter: O’Quintessa English-Bey Hodnett (Charles Hodnett), seven grandchildren: Everette J. Smith III, Eric J. Smith, Emily A. Smith, Raquel Smith, Serendi Smith, Justice Smith, Ja’Zyah English-Bey, Zeal’Royall English-Bey and O’Quinzaria English-Bey, two great-grandchildren: Jayden Smith, Amara Smith, Mekhi Smith and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in addition to the countless lives she touched.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Donald Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
