Augusta, GA – Alice Jeanette Dunagan entered into rest on April 22, 2026 at her home in Martinez.
Jeanette is the daughter of Josiah Wesley and Margaret Collins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Because Wesley was an Assembly of God minister, they moved throughout her childhood residing in Virginia and Lakeland, Florida where she graduated from Lakeland High School. She spent many Friday nights accompanying her brother to football games where he played with the high school band. The family would travel most Sundays to various churches across the region so Josiah could preach.
Jeanette had an early desire to go to the mission field as a nurse and attended the Barrett School of Nursing in Augusta where she obtained her training as a registered nurse. Her dream of becoming a missionary was thwarted when she met a young medical student by the name of Donald Dunagan who stole her heart after accompanying her to church at Lakeview Assembly of God and taking her to get dinner afterwards at What-A-Burger on Broad Street. They were married on a blistering hot Saturday in 1960 and celebrated 65 years of marriage before Don’s death in 2025.
Jeanette was passionate about her career as a nurse and worked many years offering clinical care at University Hospital. She expanded her abilities through her work at Gracewood State School and Hospital where she made home visits to ensure quality care for the residents with intellectual disabilities housed in the community.
Jeanette was an active member of First Baptist Church of Augusta until she became ill with dementia. She especially enjoyed her work with persons seeking to learn English and taught Conversational English for many years.
After retirement, Don and Jeanette spent much of their time at their second home at the lake. Jeanette’s other hobbies included watching and feeding the birds that would visit her porch and multiple bird feeders daily. She enjoyed fishing, collecting dolls, stamps and coins, coloring, putting together jigsaw puzzles, working Sudoku puzzles and watching golf. She was a wonderful seamstress making her own wedding gown as well as clothes and costumes for her children and grandchildren. Her love gift was service and giving, especially to her family. She epitomized what the scripture describes as a “cheerful giver”.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents, brother Carl Collins, son-in-law Frank Londino and granddaughter, Sarah Londino. She is survived by her children Donna Londino, Donnie Dunagan (Mary), and David Dunagan (Heather) as well as her grandchildren, Jason Londino, Jaclyn Harvey (Brenden), Gray Dunagan, Hunter Dunagan, Amber Roberson (Hunter), Drew Dunagan, Ben Dunagan, Will Dunagan, Kate Dunagan and great grandchildren, Pryor Londino, Everton Beamer, Rafael and Lana Harvey.
She will be buried in a private graveside ceremony at Westover Memorial Cemetery.
