Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Ann Harrell Saunders, 93, loving wife of the late John Lloyd Saunders.
Ann was born July 1, 1932, in Atlanta, GA, and was a graduate of Washington Seminary in Atlanta and Wesleyan College in Macon.
Ann was a renowned mathematics teacher in the Richmond County School System, teaching at both junior high (Murphey and Tutt) and senior high (Richmond Academy and Westside) levels. Upon retirement Ann snow skied for the first time when she was 68 years old, and in her mid-eighties studied accounting and became a tax-season accountant with H&R Block. Over the course of her retirement years Ann circled the globe on three occasions and visited over 20 countries. She regularly visited her family in England, where she was enlisted frequently to one church committee or another, and enjoyed many activities of English country life. For Ann there was always something new to learn or explore, whether it was walking the Great Wall of China or perfecting her near-perfect recipes for Bar-b-que hash and fruitcake cookies. Ann was alive with activity but found her greatest fulfillment in being a grandmother, a role in which she became a legendary inspiration to four grandsons and five granddaughters. Her optimism, encouragement and generosity will be greatly missed by all who knew Ann and benefited from her faith and unconditional love in action.
In addition to her late husband, family members include her daughters: Rebecca S. McKenzie (Gregg) and Dorothy M. Denny (Richard, dec.); son: John L. Saunders, Jr. (Stacey); grandchildren: David McKenzie (Meredith), Claire McKenzie, Mark McKenzie, Elizabeth Joy McKenzie, Cameron McEvoy (India), Richard McEvoy (Imogen Man), Sarah Saunders, Anna S. Jones, and Caroline Saunders; great-grandchildren: Ella McKenzie, McKenzie Logue, Emery Jane McKenzie, Jasper McEvoy, Tabitha McEvoy, Jago McEvoy, Orry McEvoy, Bear McEvoy, “AJ” Jones, and Banks Keith.
The graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Floyd Harrison officiating. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Brandon Wilde, 4275 Owens Road, Evans, GA 30809.
