Barbara Young Hundley

Blythe, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday February 16, 2023, Mrs. Barbara Young Hundley, 89.

Barbara was born in Blythe, GA. She was Valedictorian of Hephzibah High School Class of 1949. Highlights of her school years were serving as State Secretary of the 1948 4-H Club, participating in the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Georgia State 4-H Camp at Rock Eagle and winning a trip to the National 4-H Convention in Chicago for a special project on electricity. Following high school, she attended Augusta Business College. In 1950, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Bill, and moved to Ft. Meade, Maryland until Bill completed his military service. Upon their return, Barbara and Bill settled in North Augusta, SC where they raised their two children. But, in 1976, Barbara achieved her lifelong dream when her and Bill sold their home in North Augusta and returned to "God's Country" in Blythe, building a home across the highway from the house where she was raised. Barbara was employed with the US Department of Agriculture for 25 years. Upon retirement, she worked for 10 years with Local 150 Plumbers and Steamfitters as the secretary in the Apprenticeship Program. She was a lifelong member of Bath Presbyterian Church in Blythe, GA…the oldest active Presbyterian Church in Georgia established in 1784.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband: William Andrew Hundley, Jr.; parents: William and Donnie Belle Young and Harper and Louise Trowbridge; sisters: Florine (Bob) Taylor, Willine (George) Barnes and Helen (Lee) Floyd; brothers: Dannie James and Gerald James and nephew: Barry T. Barnes. She is survived by her daughter: Angela Hundley Sizemore; sons: W. Andrew Hundley, III, and Wyatt E. Windham; grandchildren: Harper Parks, Brian (Alicia) Parks; great grandchildren: Gavin Parks, Claire Basey, Elizabeth Parks, Tony Parks, Cody Hale, Nathaniel Hale and Cheyenne Hale; sister: Marianne (Charles) Trowbridge Gay; sisters-in-law: Binkie Rosier James and Persa Karapatakis; Lee and Sherri Phillips, many other loving nieces and nephews and very special friends: Robin and Deborah Auldridge and Irina Jockar.

We are so very blessed that we were able to care for Mom at home with the assistance of her loving grandson, Harper, special caregivers Capri Hyatt, Brenda Lipham, and Sharon Rivers. We were also blessed with additional care from Trinity Hospice Services.

Our mother was the most remarkable woman we have ever known. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mom was truly a beacon of light to all who knew her. She never met a stranger, loved unconditionally, and inspired her children and grandchildren to be the very best they could be. Mom was an avid homemaker, phenomenal cook, and master gardener. Although our dad liked the mountains our mother loved the beach, especially Hilton Head Island. She eventually converted dad to a beach bum, and they bought their dream vacation hide away at Hilton Head in the late 1990s. Our hearts are broken; however, we know that she now is in glory with her Lord and Savior and reunited eternally with the love of her life and all those who have gone before her.

We will celebrate our Mother’s life on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Ed Rees and Rev. Andy Menger officiating. Following the service, we will travel with Mom to Bath Presbyterian Church where she will lie in repose for a period of reflection and meditation from 3:00 until 4:00 PM. With interment immediately following in the church cemetery beside our Dad.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Bath Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 976, Hephzibah, GA 30815.
