Evans, GA- Beatrice “Bea” Scheyer, 75, the beloved wife of 54 years of Dennis Scheyer, died peacefully July 22, 2023 surrounded by her family. Bea was born in Mesilla, New Mexico, moved with her family to California in 1953, and to Georgia with her husband and sons in 1983.
Bea loved people, especially babies and children. She took care of her grandchildren and friends’ young children until they started school. She worked as a first-grade teacher’s aide at Stevens Creek Elementary school for seven years, and at the Masters Tournament for thirty years where she enjoyed meeting and talking with patrons.
She was the Artesia High School Homecoming Queen in 1966, and a song leader in high school and college. Bea’s life was made full by her love of dance. Her dancing started early in life. She began her dance training in California, taking Jazz, Ballet and Tap from famous dance teachers including Shirley Temple’s stand-in. She taught dance in California for eight years before moving to Georgia. In Georgia, “Miss Bea” taught at Augusta West Dance Studio for thirty-nine years, making and keeping many close friends - dancers, parents, and teachers., Her choreography won many awards in national dance competitions. Bea also choreographed ten Aquinas High School Musicals where she made many additional friends.
In her own words a few years ago, “39 years ago, I walked into Augusta West Dance Studio wanting to take an adult Tap Class. A month later, I was teaching little ones Ballet, Tap and Jazz. I began to meet some amazing parents (some have become family members) and beautiful children (some have become my godchildren). I have been to their weddings, Baptisms of their children, and have taught their children dance. After 39 years of teaching dance, my legs and feet have finally said, “Please Bea, no more.” I am closing my dance career chapter except for helping at the annual Christmas show, thanking God for the grace He has given me for dance, and everybody who He has put in my life during his amazing journey. Love you all!”
The family spent many happy vacations at Myrtle Beach, SC. Bea enjoyed vacationing with family at the beach, visiting Brian in Sausalito and San Francisco, and her family in California along with having family to the house for Sunday dinners especially when she prepared her fantastic Mexican meals. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events.
She was an active member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. She had a very strong faith in our Lord. Shortly after arriving in Georgia, she began teaching CCD religion classes, she was honored to be a Eucharistic Minister, assisted with Senior Luncheons and the Bereavement Ministry, and volunteered at St. Mary on the Hill School and at the Catholic Social Services thrift store.
