Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, September 15, 2025, Beverly Jean Barnhart, 90.
Beverly, the founding principal of John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, retired after more than twenty-five years with the Richmond County Board of Education. She helped raise the federal funding for creation of magnet schools in Augusta. Teaching and inspiring children was the passion and focus of her life. Honored by Davidson, its theatre bears her name. Beverly was a 2017 honoree of the Jimmie Dyess Distinguished American Award. As a retiree, she excelled at painting and was an avid reader. After the death of her beloved husband, Lowell, Beverly lived at Thrive Senior Living, a place she considered home and had many close friends.
Family members include her daughters: Liz Barton (Lee), Carrie Barnhart, and Dottie Wesley; granddaughter: Taylor Burkhart (Treadway).
She was preceded in death by her late husband: Lowell Ellis Barnhart; parents: Edmund and Ninabelle See (Eheremen); sister: Brenda K. See; and brother: Charles R. See.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Beverly J Barnhart Theater @ John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, 618 12th Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
Memorial contributions may be made to Davidson Fine Arts.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
