Carl T. Darby

Augusta, Georgia – Carl Truman Darby, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving children and devoted caregiver, Skyler Mosley.

Carl was born on August 25, 1931, and was a lifelong resident of Augusta, Georgia. A proud graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and the University of Georgia, Carl was a passionate Georgia Bulldogs fan. He was an avid golfer, a dedicated member of the Augusta Country Club, and an enthusiastic participant in the R.O.M.E.O. group (Retired Old Men Eating Out). For many years, he worked at the Masters Tournament's Par Three Contest at Augusta National, a tradition he cherished. Carl retired from a successful career in the lumber industry and was a dedicated member of Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church.

Carl was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Shirley Darby, for 71 years. He was also a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Brookdale Senior Living and Carl’s exceptional caregivers: Skyler, Deryan, Becky, and Sharron ("George"). Your care and compassion brought immense comfort to Carl and his family, and you will always hold a special place in their hearts.

Carl is survived by his son, Carl Darby Jr.; his daughter, Heather Darby Garren; his grandchildren, Alison (Grayson) Godley, Katie (Evan) Schantz, Robert (Tori) Darby, Chandler (Isabelle) Darby, and Mary Darby Garren; and his great-grandchildren, Charlie, Ben, and Maya. He is also survived by Paul Garren, Susan Darby, and June Darby, all of whom he loved dearly. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Darby; his son, David Darby; and his parents, Sanford Darby and Annie Mae Cason Darby.

The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church, with Rev. Roy McVeigh officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., at the church. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Baker, Louis Walker, J. Lee, David Hudson, Tim Shields, and Earl Wright.
