Ms. Carolyn Batson Smith Anderson passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday morning, April 22, 2025. Ms. Carolyn was born October 14, 1928, in Baldwin County at home to Ruth Stubbs Batson and Charles Hamilton Batson. Carolyn was the 4th of 6 children born to Ruth and Charles Batson. Carolyn and the love of her life, Wilmer (Bill) Smith, married on April 9, 1950, and they became parents to son, Thurmond (Gary) Smith, and daughter, Barbara (Gail) Smith, over the next few years.
Bill and Carolyn bought their first and only home in Martinez, Georgia on Flowing Wells Road in 1959. Carolyn remained in that home until June 2022 then lived out her days with her dear friends at The Cottages in Milledgeville. Carolyn spent much of her time with her nieces Carol McCook and Sandra Smith, whom she loved and appreciated immensely. Carolyn spent many hours leaning on her very special nephew, Thomas Bennett, Jr., who has ensured she was well cared for throughout her elder years. Carolyn’s life was full of love, laughter, good food, and many adventures. Carolyn had a strong faith in the Lord and was an active member of the Warren Baptist Church for 63 years, where she had many wonderful friends in the women’s group and throughout the church community.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Charles Batson; her husband Bill, and their children Gary and Gail. Carolyn remarried many years after Bill’s passing, to Andrew Anderson, who also preceded her in death. Carolyn was the last of her siblings as she was preceded in death by her younger sister, Dorothy B. Bennett, and her husband Thomas Bennett; Carolyn’s brother, Samuel Batson and his wife, Joann; sister, Jean Smith, and her husband Wesley Smith; her sister Martha Batson Mills Wiley; and nephews Larry and Randy Smith, and David Batson.
