Celeste Weathers Patterson

Celeste Weathers Patterson passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025 in Columbus, GA with her family present. She was a beloved wife, mother, and doting “LaLa” to her five grandchildren and great-grandson whom she adored.

Celeste was born and raised in Augusta, GA where she graduated from Richmond Academy in 1955. An exemplary student, she was selected by her peers to serve as Honorary Cadet Colonel in addition to being involved in several different clubs and organizations.

Celeste attended Mary Baldwin College from 1955-57 before transferring to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1959 with an A.B. in Sociology. At UNC, Celeste was a devoted member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and served on the membership council of the Young Women’s Christian Association. Celeste stayed involved as an Alpha Delta Pi alumnus in their Atlanta chapter for many years.

After college, Celeste spent time as a social worker in Charlotte, NC, before moving home to Augusta where she met Pat Patterson. They married in 1963 and moved to Atlanta, GA where they welcomed their two children. Celeste went on to make wonderful homes for their family as they moved to North Palm Beach, FL and Dothan, AL before settling back in Atlanta. Upon the passing of her husband in 1997, Celeste relocated to Columbus, GA.

Celeste quickly made Columbus home by joining Trinity Episcopal Church - a place that was very important to her. She was involved in several different ministries, frequently volunteered her time at different church events, and was an active member of the church’s chapter of Daughters of the King. She also used her gifts as a talented pianist to bring joy to others in her community.

Celeste’s family was her greatest joy; she cherished being a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt. Celeste was happiest spending time with her five grandchildren and watching them grow up. She was blessed to be actively involved in their lives and prioritized being there for them for everything from school pickups to sporting events to family dinners. Celeste was known for her generosity with her time, love and resources toward those that were dear to her, and this devotion has made a lasting impact on so many.

Celeste is survived by her children: Karen Patterson Boyd (Thomas) of Columbus, GA and Patrick Wade Patterson (Caroline) of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren Kendall Hitt (Andrew), Thomas Boyd, William Boyd, Jake Patterson, and Jenna Patterson; and great-grandson Hayes Hitt. Celeste was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy Wilbur Weathers and Bessie Barnes Weathers, husband Wilbur LaFayette “Pat” Patterson, and sisters Patricia Brigham and Janice Hollis.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Celeste’s team who provided excellent love and care in the final years of her life (Erica Childress, Rainey Henderson, Cora Price). We especially want to recognize Jessie Westmoreland, who was not only a wonderful caregiver, but quickly became one of Celeste’s best friends and a beloved member of our family.
