Mr. Charles Elmer Whitt, Jr., age 74, of Martinez, Georgia, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 25, 2025.
Chuck was born on November 3, 1950, on what he would annually call “the most beautiful day of the year.” He was born in Atlanta, Georgia at Crawford Long Hospital. Chuck grew up in Atlanta, Savannah, and Clearwater, Florida and treasured his time and relationships built in those seasons of his life. His family moved back to Atlanta, Georgia for his senior year of high school where he proudly played football and baseball for North Springs High School in Sandy Springs.
Chuck went on to play football on scholarship for Wofford College where he played in the NAIA Championship in 1970. He remained a proud Terrier all the days of his life. After graduating, Chuck taught and coached at Wheeler and Cherokee High Schools. He went on to work for Kemper Insurance before transitioning to Allstate Insurance in 1984, where he built an illustrious career until his retirement in 2012. Once retired, you could find him on the golf course, spending time with his friends and family, traveling all across the globe, or regaling friends (and the occasional stranger) with stories from his high school or collegiate glory days.
Chuck loved his life; he adored his wife of sixteen years, Kathi, and was a proud grandfather to their grandchildren. He was a devoted father to Jenny and Jane and lived sacrificially to raise them into the adults they are today. He was a die-hard Atlanta sports fan, always watching the Braves, Hawks, or Falcons, in good times and bad. He was also an avid fan of the world’s greatest band - the Beatles! Most of all, Chuck loved his friends and family with longevity and loyalty very few people experience.
Chuck was predeceased by his father, Charles Elmer Whitt, Sr. and mother, Myrtis Slade Whitt, daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Whitt, and granddaughter, Lucy Jane Rockett. He is survived by his wife, Kathi Whitt; mother-in-law, Barbara Smith; brothers Dennis Whitt (Julie) and Cody Whitt (Teresa); daughters Jenny Whitt Rockett (Mark) and Jane Grimsley Whitt; stepchildren, Jeff Randall (Traci) and Paige Gsell (Andrew); grandchildren Ellie Rockett, Charlie Rockett, Charlotte Randall, Claire Randall, Jack Gsell, Benjamin Gsell, and Grace Gsell; granddog, Teddy Whitt; and other loving family members.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00am at Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans, Georgia with Greg Porterfield officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00am in the atrium of the Sanctuary prior to the service.
