Chris Figgins entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on September 12 at the age of 85. He passed away peacefully at his home in Evans, Georgia surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 27,1940 in Caruthersville, Missouri, to the late Knox and Velma Figgins, Chris lived a life defined by unwavering faith, dedication to his family, and quiet strength. He married the “girl at the coffee shop,” Betty on March 28, 1964, and together they built a life full of shared memories and Christ-centered love.
A devoted Christian, Chris' faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Evans for over 30 years. He lived out his faith not just in word but in deed, demonstrating God's love and grace to everyone he met. He was known for his gentle wisdom, his steadfast character, and his dry sense of humor.
In his professional life, Chris worked as a Teacher and Team Leader for Gracewood School and State Hospital for 30 years before moving on to Mentor of Augusta and Lyndale Incorporated then finally retiring in 2018. Colleagues and friends will remember him for his integrity, his work ethic, and his gentle spirit. Outside of his career, he enjoyed coaching his three sons in baseball and soccer and reading, especially God’s Word.
Chris was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Figgins, Hazel Manley, John Figgins and Helen Meek.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Atkins Figgins; and his children, Trevor Figgins (Traci), Corey Figgins (Emily), Kevin Figgins (Tara); his 9 grandchildren, McKenzie Flores (Ur), Ashtyn Dodd (Andrew), Jada Figgins, Brayden Figgins, Elliana Figgins, Jackson Figgins, Malachi Figgins, Jacob Figgins, Ivy Figgins; his 1 great-grandson August Dodd and his youngest sister Debbie Mitchell. He also leaves behind a host of extended family and many dear friends.
The family takes comfort in the promise of eternal life, knowing that Chris has finished his race and is now at peace in the arms of his Savior. As Philippians 1:21 beautifully says, "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain".
A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at Thomas Poteet & Son Chapel on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11 o’clock, with visitation at 10 o’clock.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Grace Baptist Church of Evans 4945 Hardy McManus Road, Evans, GA 30809 or Southeast Hospice 3736 Executive Center Drive, Augusta, GA 30907.
"Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23).
