Thomson, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, September 9, 2024, Claude Victor VanSant, III, 73, loving husband of Brenda VanSant.
Raised in Douglasville, GA, he was the oldest of six children. After receiving his BS in Forestry, he obtained his master’s in wildlife management, both from UGA. Go Dawgs! While there, he met his wife and they moved to North Carolina, where their daughter was born, and then Sapelo Island, GA, where their son was born, before settling in Thomson, GA in 1981.
He worked as a Wildlife Biologist for GA DNR for 30 years until he retired in 2011. He spent the last half of his career serving as the Regional Supervisor over 33 counties in middle Georgia. Vic loved birds, dogs, and especially bird dogs. He retired so he could spend more time with his grandkids and his bird dogs. He and Brenda loved to travel, and he would say his favorite thing about traveling to Mexico, Belize, Nova Scotia, Ireland and the Netherlands (and many more) was “seeing the countryside.”
Vic was a friend and mentor to many. He was still in touch with many high school, college and work friends although he didn’t see them as often as he liked.
Family members, in addition to his wife, include his children: Jami Shingler (Brad) and Levi VanSant (Rachel Black); grandchildren: Mary Van Shingler, Worth Shingler, Luke Butler, and Katherine Butler; siblings: Karen Wilson (Bill), Jeff VanSant, Tim VanSant (Peggy), Scott VanSant, and Stan VanSant (Kelly); and numerous extended family members.
A celebration of life for all those that loved him will be held at a later date.
