Clyde Lanier Knox, Sr. was born October 25, 1945 in Appling, Georgia. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 after an extended illness. He is preceded in death by his parents Lindsay “Bo” Knox and Mary Elna Morris Knox, and his sister Betty Knox Kent, all of Appling.
Clyde is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janice Lindley Knox, his children Wendi Knox (Mike), Clyde L. Knox, Jr. “Bo” (Katie), and Claire Knox (Lawson). He is also survived by his grandchildren Taylor Vowell (Carlie), Lane Carter Knox, and Addi Knox, and his great grandchildren Noah, Liam, Drew and Luke Vowell. We cannot forget his faithful Chihuahua pups Libby, Hazel, Chloe, Gracie, Penny and Dot the cat.
Clyde was a civil engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He built countless roads, bridges and interstates during his long career. Clyde retired in 1995 with over 30 years of service. He continued to work after retirement with various contractors coordinating with GDOT and overseeing many of the road widening and bridge construction projects throughout the region. Clyde was a dedicated father, grandfather, great grandfather and husband. He enjoyed outdoor activities, washing the cars and keeping his yard immaculately neat. He loved to hunt. He especially loved his trips with his son to Wyoming and Montana. While we are deeply saddened with his passing, we rejoice in the peace of knowing he suffers no more pain.
We will celebrate Clyde’s life on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son. The family will receive friends following the service. Clyde loved his animals and we ask if you feel so led, please make a donation to your favorite animal rescue organization.
Burial will be private at a later date.
