Connie entered heaven's gates early Thursday, January 15, 2026 with Dana by her side.
She was a dynamic lady. Having a rare grit and determination, Connie's best asset was her servant's heart. She lived the golden rule and saw the good in everyone and loved each individual, no matter the circumstances. Being born in 1957 in Limestone County, Alabama was just the beginning of her journey that only the Lord could ordain. She was a curious little girl, developing her own style for caring and training horses and other animals. Christ became her Lord and Savior at the age of six.
Starting at age twelve, Connie began serving as the pianist and member of Round Island Baptist Church where she met the love of her life, Larry Martin. She also had an incredible vocal talent and enjoyed sharing her gift at church services, special programs, and homegoing services. In later years, she and Dana were blessed to be able to sing harmony and glorify the Lord in many services.
The beginning of her eighteenth year started with her birthday, graduated from Tanner High School with extensive credits in formal sewing from the curriculum of Mrs. Wanda Hightower, and married Larry June 1. While their hearts were in Alabama, professional ties led them to make a home in Georgia. She had many diverse career steps which ultimately led to her civil service at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia. She was the assistant to the chief of Behavioral Health and soon her position expanded to the Director of Medical Boards for the southeastern region and Puerto Rico for our service men and women returning from defending our freedom. She supported the staff and soldiers as if they were her family and she reluctantly medically retired after fifteen years. She fervently prayed for a life where God would use her talents and He did.
She was predeceased by her husband, Larry Martin, her father, George Wesley McElyea, and her mother, Doris Key McElyea. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Martin, and an exceptional circle of friends.
The homegoing service for Connie McElyea Martin will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at two o'clock in the chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son. Dan Hendricks will be officiating. The family will receive friends at one o'clock. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
