Cory John Chance, 39, passed away on March 31, 2026.
Cory was a deeply kind and selfless soul, the kind of person who showed up for others without hesitation and without asking for anything in return. He loved big. He loved his family to include his siblings, and especially his nieces and nephews, who meant the world to him. His presence was steady, warm, and genuine, and he made people feel seen, cared for, and never alone.
He had a strength about him and a heart that extended not just to people, but to animals and anyone in need. Cory played a meaningful role in caring for his family, including helping with his brother Tre, and he did so with patience, compassion, and love. He was unapologetically himself, and that authenticity is something those who knew him will always carry with them. His infectious laughter alone could fill a room with a joy that is insurmountable.
Cory shared a deeply meaningful bond with his father, Calvin E. Chance, Jr., who he looked up to and often considered his hero. He wanted to be just like him and truly believed he was the coolest person on the planet. They were incredibly close—best friends in every sense—spending time together, laughing, and simply enjoying each other’s presence. In later years, when his father became ill, Cory stepped into the role of caregiver without hesitation, showing the same unwavering love and loyalty that defined their bond.
He shared a special bond with his mother, Cheryl Chance, with whom he was thick as thieves and the closest of friends. Their relationship was full of laughter, trust, and unwavering support, a connection that defined much of his life and will be cherished for a lifetime.
Cory had an endless curiosity and a passion for learning. He loved gardening, exploring the outdoors, and building incredible things like a Tesla coil that amazed everyone who saw it. He knew anything and everything about science, often in ways that went far over the heads of those around him, and he loved sharing that knowledge with anyone who would listen.
Cory was also a man of profound faith. In recent months, he sought a deeper understanding and experienced a revelation that reflected his steadfast belief in God. His spirituality was an important part of who he was, guiding his life as a genuine, unwavering believer in the Holy Spirit.
His friends and family always knew they could count on him, especially his best friends Ronnie, Ronnie’s family, and Thomas, who were like a second family to him. Though he faced his own struggles, Cory’s life was defined by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, curiosity, and authenticity that touched everyone who knew him.
Cory is survived by Calvin E. Chance, Jr. and Cheryl L. Chance (Thomas), Carra Richardson (Keat), Calvin E. Chance, III (Tre), Sophia Richardson, Olivia Richardson, Christine Thomas, Mike Socha, Heather Thomas-Angerhofer, Jim Angerhofer, Austin Angerhofer, Garrett Angerhofer, Janette Chance, Wesley and Pam Chance, Travers and Tracey Chance, and a family who loved him deeply and will miss him beyond words.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Cory by showing kindness to others—just as he always did.
