Curtis A. Markey

Evans, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, January 9th, Curtis A. Markey, 70, loving husband of Janice Ritchie Markey.

Curtis was born in Southington, CT. He served 12 years in the US Navy, most often on submarines. He was a nuclear trained machinist mate. Curt served with distinction aboard the USS Enterprise, the USS Woodrow Wilson and the USS Georgia. After serving in the Navy, he worked as the senior Director with GP Strategies in the workforce development division providing technical training, consulting and developing training programs. His final accomplishments in the workforce were with Superheat as the Nuclear Division Manager.

Curt had a great affinity for wildlife. Aside from his family he found his greatest peace being on the water. Over the years he became an exceptional craftsman, building an array of different furniture. Curt was a man of many accomplishments. He never met a challenge he did not face head on.

As a father and grandfather, he experienced a great deal of joy spending time with his family. Never a dull moment, there were always laughs and good times shared by Curt and his family. He was always the dad you could count on to build it, fix it, or teach you how to do it. If you ever had the pleasure of interacting with Curt you were instantly met with a man who would understand, relate and make it known that you were important and appreciated.

In addition to his wife, left to cherish his memory are his mother Charlotte Sorbello; children Curtis A. Markey, Jr. (Ashley) and Liza M. Bragg (Charlie); grandchildren Lucy Newman, Finley Newman, and Clara Markey; siblings Corinne Markey, Giovanni Sorbello III and Anthony Sorbello. He will also be greatly missed by brothers-in-law Norman Ritchie, David Ritchie and Steven Ritchie. He is preceded in death by his father Rudy Markey Jr. and stepfather Giovanni (John) Sorbello Jr.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made directly to the Markey family on behalf of the Clarks Hill Youth Fishing Team Classic College Fund. Please make checks directly to Curtis Markey and mail to 325 Connor Circle Evans GA 30809. This spring a scholarship will be awarded in his honor.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bragg family home on Saturday, February 17th, 2024, from 3-6 p.m. 2926 Westchester Drive, Augusta GA 30909.
