Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Dale Francis Stencel, 83, loving husband of the late Jean Mills Stencel.
A native of Minnesota, Mr. Stencel moved to the Augusta area to complete his military service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Bellsouth after 30 years. A devoted parishioner of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Mr. Stencel served as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher and was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and honorary 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. In addition, he was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America Bellsouth/AT&T. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Mr. Stencel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who was affectionately known as “Papa Dale” by his grandchildren.
Family members include his sons: Scott Stencel (Shiela) Troy Stencel (Suzanne), Mark Stencel (Katy); daughters: Sheila Stencel, Debbie Brown; grandchildren: Haley Caines (Dustin), Jonathan Brown, Allison Renew (Joe), Dr. Chandler Stencel, Dr. Tyler Brown, Hayden Stencel (Tarah), Madison Hughes (Justin), Marin Stencel, Caroline Hardin (Jacob), Anna Baumgartner (Wilson), Logan Stencel, Bryce Stencel, Barrett Stencel; 8 great-grandchildren; brother: Alan Stencel; and sister: Beverly Stencel. In addition to his wife, Mr. Stencel is preceded in death by his parents: George Albert Stencel and Mildred Bruckhoff Stencel; brother: George Byron Stencel; and grandson: Dalton Christopher Best.
The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 12:15 P.M. at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 720 Telfair Street, Augusta, GA 30901 with Fr. Jacob Almeter, celebrant. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church c/o Building Fund, PO Box 2446, Augusta, GA 30903 or the CSRA Parkinson’s Support Group, PO Box 31, Evans, GA 30809.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, beginning at 11:00 A.M., in St. Francis Hall at the church.
