Deborah "Debbie" Rice Johnson

Augusta, GA - Deborah “Debbie” Ellen Rice Johnson passed away on February 13, 2024, at the age of 67 in Augusta, Georgia, following an extended illness. 

 

Debbie grew up in a military family as the daughter of Sgt. Joseph Leon Rice and Roselee “June“ Cagle Rice, who both preceded her in death. She was born on April 19, 1956 in Rapid City, South Dakota, and lived in various places, such as Kansas, Illinois, Germany, and Georgia. She graduated from George P. Butler High School in 1974, and went on to receive an Associate Degree in Accounting from Augusta Tech. She previously worked for the Augusta Chronicle and volunteered at Catholic Social Services.

 

Debbie is survived by her sons, Christopher Charles Johnson and Joseph “Brett” Johnson (Heather); her granddaughters, Lily Johnson, Abby Johnson, and Katie Swanson; her sisters, Carolyn Rice Dunn (Steve) and Kathy Rice Pennington (John); her nieces, Laura Dunn Doyle, Kendyl Pennington, and Karson Pennington; and her nephew, Steven Dunn. 

 

Her family prays that in heaven she is once again healthy and whole. She will be greatly missed.

 

Debbie’s life will be honored at a graveside service at 3 pm on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, Georgia. Family and close friends will be received at the graveside prior to the service. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Social Services, 811 12th Street, Augusta, Georgia 30901.
